Mission Menstruation ↘
YWCA of Grand Island provides the program Mission Menstruation, Menstruation happens, and YWCA of Grand Island is on a mission to provide better access to period products and reduce the stigma that quiets the conversation on menstruation.
The issues of access and stigma have been exacerbated during this health pandemic, but as Dana Marlowe of the non-profit I Support the Girls states, “periods don’t stop for pandemics.”
With more and more people staying home due to COVID-19, area women are finding it difficult to obtain the products they need. Jessica Igo of Grand Island tells of an experience she had trying to order tampons through InstaCart. “Previously my InstaCart shoppers have been men. Not one of them would take my order that included tampons, not even with a 50% tip.”
To address this need, YWCA of Grand Island will be launching their new program titled Mission: Menstruation.
YWCA of Grand Island is collecting donations of unopened period products. Items can be shipped directly to 211 E Fonner Park Rd, Grand Island, NE 68801 or dropped in the plastic tote at the building’s front entrance.
Monetary donations can also be made online. People in need of period products can call YWCA of Grand Island or submit an order online. Once donations have been received, YWCA volunteers will begin delivering products to people’s addresses.
